Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief YS Sharmila Reddy took a bold stance on Thursday, leading a protest at the Gandhinagar State Bank of India (SBI) branch in response to the recent Supreme Court verdict supporting the release of electoral bonds.

The Supreme Court, while advocating transparency in electoral bonds introduced by the BJP, prompted YS Sharmila to emphasize the need for clear disclosure. The controversial Electoral Bonds system has faced criticism for its alleged role in facilitating undisclosed financial transactions, raising concerns about potential quid pro quo and illegal financial dealings.

YS Sharmila Protests:Accusations Against SBI as “Modi Bank”
Expressing her concerns, YS Sharmila accused the SBI, often regarded as the people’s bank, of acting as a “Modi Bank” aligned with the ruling party. She demanded immediate disclosure of bond details, asserting that the SBI’s protection of Modi’s organization instead of serving the people is worrisome.

The Congress party, echoing YS Sharmila’s concerns, demanded the immediate disclosure of bond details, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the democratic process. Despite SBI’s response being deemed ridiculous, the party remains fearless, calling for an open and honest disclosure of bond details.
Meanwhile, the SBI has sought an extension till June 30 to submit details of Electoral Bonds to the Election Commission of India, citing practical difficulties in the decoding exercise. The Constitution bench of the Supreme Court had earlier instructed the SBI to furnish details of political parties receiving Electoral Bonds since April 12, 2019, and submit them to the Election Commission by March 6.
