Administrative Secretary Piyush Singla dismissed the circulating news as mere rumor, emphasizing that, “As of now, we have not made any decision, but whenever there is a decision in this regard, we will notify the students accordingly.”

Contrary to the anticipation of an extended winter break, meteorological officials in Srinagar projected that the weather would likely remain cloudy from February 28-29. However, they did mention the possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places.

The department’s forecast extended further, anticipating light to moderate rain with snow at some places and a downpour from March 2 to March 3.

Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir, revealed that they were closely monitoring the evolving weather conditions. Undecided about extending the winter vacations, Mir stated, “We are assessing the weather conditions, and the decision about extending the vacation will depend on the weather conditions.”

Mir assured further action, mentioning, “I will speak to the administrative secretary and will make a decision accordingly.”

In a flashback to November 2023, Alok Kumar, the then Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, highlighted the department’s inability to provide heating arrangements for all government school students due to a lack of facilities. Kumar stated, “We have a large number of schools, and we don’t have enough facilities available to provide early winter vacations.”
