Controversial Monkey Mini-City Plan in Georgia Faces Opposition
Plans to build a 200-acre mini-city for 30,000 macaques in Bainbridge, Georgia, have sparked backlash from local residents and animal rights groups. Safer Human Medicine is investing $396 million in the simian metropolis, aiming to use the macaques for medical research.
However, residents argue against the invasive species and fear being overrun. Animal rights groups oppose breeding primates for tests, deeming it cruel.
Safer Human Medicine contends that the monkeys will be kept in secure conditions, free to roam and socialize, and has filed a legal complaint against the local development authority.
