Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan: Boosting Higher Education in Uttar Pradesh
Under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, Uttar Pradesh secures the highest grant in the country, amounting to approximately Rs 740 crore. The funds aim to improve research quality, encourage innovation, and renovate aging structures in the state’s universities.
Enhancing Infrastructure and Digital Education Methods
The allocated grant plays a pivotal role in upgrading the quality of higher education institutions in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring compliance with established parameters. Emphasis is placed on increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) to 35 percent by 2026, with a focus on developing infrastructure for digital education methods.
Empowering Disadvantaged Communities in Higher Education
The initiative addresses inclusivity by providing opportunities for socially disadvantaged communities. The grant facilitates the enrollment of women and individuals from minority groups, as well as SC/ST/OBC, in higher education institutions across the state.
Support to Universities under MERU and Strengthening Nationwide
Six universities in Uttar Pradesh, identified under the Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research University (MERU), receive funds totaling Rs 100 crore each. Furthermore, eight universities in the state, out of the 52 identified nationwide, are granted funds to strengthen their infrastructure and educational capabilities.
This substantial financial support underlines the government’s commitment to fostering excellence, accessibility, and innovation in higher education throughout Uttar Pradesh.
