An Akasa aircraft departing from Mumbai, carrying 166 passengers and crew members, had to make an emergency landing at Varanasi airport due to a bomb threat received via social media. The airline spokesperson provided details of the incident, highlighting the swift response and precautionary measures taken to ensure passenger safety.
Emergency Alert and Immediate Action
The captain of flight QP 1498 received an “emergency alert” from the Varanasi Air Traffic Controller, prompting the implementation of all necessary emergency procedures. The aircraft landed safely in Varanasi, with the crew prioritizing the well-being of all 166 individuals on board. Additionally, the airline reported the bomb threat message to local authorities in Mumbai, initiating the process of filing an FIR (First Information Report.

Security Protocol and Airport Alert
Following the bomb threat, the airline activated its emergency response mechanism and informed all 16 airports where it operates. These airports were placed on high alert as part of the security protocol. Subsequently, the threat was categorized as “non-specific,” but stringent security measures remained in place to ensure passenger safety.
Thorough Security Check and Safe Declaration
Varanasi Airport Director Puneet Gupta confirmed that a comprehensive security check was conducted on the aircraft. Fortunately, nothing objectionable was found during the inspection, leading to the declaration that the aircraft was safe.

Akasa Air emphasized that all mandated security procedures were completed, providing assurance that the aircraft had been thoroughly assessed and declared safe for further operations.This incident underscores the importance of prompt and coordinated responses to security threats in the aviation industry, prioritizing passenger safety above all else.
