J-K Investigation Unit in Baramulla Produces Charge Sheet in Narco-Terror Case
In a significant development related to narco-terrorism, the State Investigation Unit (SIU) Baramulla has presented a charge sheet before the court of Additional Sessions Judge (NIA Court) Baramulla. The charge sheet implicates six individuals, including Mohd Aslam Khatana, Muneer Ahmad Din, Bilal Ahmad Dar, Akhtar Niyaz Bhat, and Mudasir Yousuf Goknu, who are currently under judicial custody. Additionally, Mohd Hassan Awan, residing in Tehsil Bagh PoK, has been named in the charge sheet.
Cross-Border Smuggling and Terror Links
The case stems from an incident on August 11, 2023, when arms, ammunition, and narcotics were seized from the accused at a checkpoint in Powarian Thajal Uri. Investigations revealed their involvement in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition under the direction of Pakistan-based terror handlers. The recovered items were intended for distribution to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists for carrying out terrorist activities.
Legal Proceedings and Next Hearing
The court has scheduled the next hearing for February 20, 2024. The accused individuals face charges related to their alleged roles in narco-terrorism, highlighting the interconnected issues of smuggling, terrorism, and cross-border activities orchestrated by terror networks. The legal proceedings underscore the efforts to address and curb such activities with a focus on national security.
