Key Leaders Convene in Delhi for INDIA Alliance Seat-Sharing Talks
The national capital hosted a crucial meeting of the ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)’ on Wednesday. The primary agenda was the seat-sharing strategy for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, DMK leader TR Baalu, and CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury were among the key figures present. The meeting took place at Kharge’s residence.
Growing Rift Within INDIA Alliance as Mamata Banerjee Stands Firm
While the alliance strives for unity, a notable discord emerged as Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized her unwillingness to allocate even a single seat to the Congress party in West Bengal. Mamata attributed the strained relations to the Communist Party of India (Marxist), asserting that her association with the Congress had soured due to the influence of the CPM, whom she labeled as the “number one broker of BJP.”
Uncertainty in West Bengal Seat-Sharing Talks Amid Congress’ Ongoing Efforts
Despite Mamata Banerjee’s firm stance, Congress sources indicated ongoing efforts to bring her on board as an ally. Seat-sharing talks in West Bengal remain on hold, with the party expressing optimism about the prospects. The sources clarified that TMC (Trinamool Congress) is still a part of the INDIA Alliance.
Akhilesh Yadav Affirms Alliance in Uttar Pradesh Amidst SP-Congress Strain
In Uttar Pradesh, tensions surfaced within the INDIA bloc as Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey criticized the Samajwadi Party’s ‘one-sided’ approach. However, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav countered, confirming that there would be an alliance in the state, and seats would be allocated appropriately. Yadav expressed determination to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and emphasized the importance of defeating the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
