The Jammu Divisional Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar, recently led a comprehensive review of the preparations for the much-anticipated annual Navratra festival, slated to begin on October 15 and conclude on October 23. Festival Inauguration and Cultural Showcase
The festival’s grand inauguration is scheduled to take place at the Yog Ashram Ground Katra. Following the inauguration, there will be a vibrant Shobha Yatra, setting the tone for the festivities. The event aims to showcase not only the cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir but also the rich tapestry of India as a whole.

The Director of Tourism provided an extensive report on the scheduled programs and activities for the Navratra festival. These programs include a wide range of events, from ‘Prabhat Pheris’ to ‘Mata ki Kahani’ recitation, a Devotional Song Competition, Ram Leela performances, Dangal, and other culturally enriching events. A focus on engaging and spiritually uplifting activities is evident in the festival’s planning.
Preparation for Congregational Programs
Preparations are in full swing for congregational programs such as the ‘Mata Kahani’ show, which will be held at the Spiritual Growth Center. Additionally, Ram Leela performances will be a daily highlight at Government Higher Secondary School Katra from 6 PM to 8 PM. These events promise to immerse attendees in the religious and cultural aspects of Navratra.
Diverse Cultural Offerings
The festival promises a diverse cultural experience with events like Garba Night and Garba Dandiya Night scheduled for October 21 at Padma Shri Sachdev Government PG College for Women Gandhinagar Jammu. A plethora of other activities, including All India Devotional song performances, Bhagwat Katha, folk festivals, Hassaya Vyang, Mata Ka Jagran, Kavi Samelan, Wrestling Competitions, and programs featuring specially-abled children, will ensure there’s something for everyone.

The Divisional Commissioner emphasized the need for meticulous planning, with a focus on town beautification, sanitation, essential services, traffic management, and emergency services. He instructed departments to maintain sanitation from Domel to Katra Town throughout the Navratra days. Coordination among departments, advance arrangements, and proper regulation of traffic were highlighted as crucial to ensuring a hassle-free festival experience for pilgrims.

Ramesh Kumar expressed his optimism that the Navratra festival would attract more tourists and promote religious and pilgrimage tourism in the region. The festival not only serves as a spiritual journey but also as a cultural extravaganza.
