Centre Enforces Anti-Pollution Measures in Delhi-NCR Amid Deteriorating Air Quality
The Centre has mandated the enforcement of Stage-III anti-pollution measures in Delhi-NCR, invoking an 8-point action plan under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The Central Pollution Control Board’s Sub-Committee on Clean Air and Sustainable Mobility emphasized the need for immediate action to curb deteriorating air quality. The restrictions include a halt to operations in stone crushers, mining activities, and a strict ban on construction and demolition activities, with exemptions for specific projects. State governments and the Delhi government have been directed to impose strict restrictions on the use of certain vehicles to reduce vehicular emissions. The move comes as the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi entered the ‘severe’ category amid cold weather conditions.
