ISRO’s Aditya-L1 Mission Set to Reach Cosmic Destination on January 6, 2024
During the annual science and technology festival at IIT Bombay, S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO, revealed that the Aditya-L1 spacecraft is scheduled to reach Lagrange Point 1 (L1) on January 6, 2024, at 4 pm.
Speaking at the event, Somanath expressed the success of Chandrayaan-3, instilling confidence in ISRO’s future endeavors. He mentioned the 14-day mission duration of Chandrayaan-3, which ceased thereafter, advising against any attempts to revive it. While highlighting the uncertainties, he mentioned the possibility of communication between the Pragyaan rover and Vikram lander.
Acknowledging the limitations, Somanath emphasized the valuable data collected during the 14-day operation and its potential for significant scientific outcomes, currently being analyzed by ISRO scientists.
Earlier in the week, the ISRO chief, along with BJP leader Rivaba Jadeja, attended the 7th national conclave organized by Chhatra Sansad in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Aditya-L1, India’s inaugural solar mission, was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on September 2, following the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the Moon’s South pole.
Recently, ISRO confirmed the operational status of the Solar Wind Ion Spectrometer (SWIS), the second instrument in the Aditya Solar Wind Particle Experiment (ASPEX) of the Aditya L1 mission, signifying further progress in the mission’s objectives.
