Uttarakhand Government Endorses Drafting Committee’s Decisions on Uniform Civil Code
The Uttarakhand government, in a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, greenlit the decisions taken by an expert panel tasked with formulating a uniform civil code for the state.
The drafting committee, led by retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, has made significant progress and is expected to submit the draft to the government in January.
Following this, the implementation process will commence.
Initiated back in May 2022, the expert committee has garnered the government’s approval for its proposals.
Additionally, the Cabinet has paused construction activities for a year in 11 townships along the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line for redevelopment according to a master plan.
This development plan encompasses various townships, including Rishikesh, Shivpuri, Byasi, Sirala, and others, aiming to revamp them as per the stipulated plan.
Furthermore, the Cabinet decided to offer a kilogram of iodised salt per month at a subsidized rate of Rs 8 to beneficiaries holding Antyodaya and BPL cards.
In a significant move, the State Industrial Development Authority was granted the authority to approve all maps pertaining to industrial areas within Uttarakhand.
Additionally, the government resolved to unfreeze 195 positions in the Roadways department, specifically designated for dependents of employees who pass away during their tenure.
Furthermore, there’s a plan to fill 327 new positions for constables and sub-inspectors in six police stations and 21 outposts previously under revenue, now integrated into the regular police structure.
Moreover, the government announced an increase in financial aid, elevating the assistance from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for candidates who clear Union Public Service Commission, defence forces, and NDA preliminaries.
These decisions reflect the government’s commitment to administrative reform and social welfare initiatives.
