Despite obtaining approval from the High Court for the transfer of land to facilitate the construction of a new court complex in Budgam district, the district administration has yet to make progress on the matter. An official reported that there has been no substantial development from the district administration concerning the transfer of land to the judiciary.
Earlier this month, the Revenue Department had formally requested the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam to transfer 117 Kanal 19 Marlas of Shamilat Deh land located in Ichgam, Budgam, to the judiciary for the construction of the New Court Complex. However, the Additional Commissioner (Revenue) of Budgam, Afroza Bano, stated that she had not received any official communication regarding the land transfer as of yet.
Furthermore, the Executive Engineer of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) division in Budgam conducted a survey of the proposed land for the new court complex, concluding that the site appeared suitable for construction, particularly from a flood risk perspective. This survey was carried out in response to a request from the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, who had urged the Executive Engineer to assess the site comprehensively. He emphasized that the assessment was crucial to address congestion issues and improve the administration of justice in the district.
Several lawyers’ associations in Budgam had passed resolutions unanimously supporting the identified land, measuring 117 Kanal 19 Marlas, for the construction of the new Court Complex. The Principal District and Sessions Judge’s selection of this land had also received approval from the High Court.
Despite these developments, the delay in transferring the land for the court complex construction remains a concern, as it affects the efficient administration of justice in the district.
