Jerusalem Bus Stop Attack: Three Killed, Eight Wounded

During the morning rush hour on Thursday, a deadly shooting occurred at a bus stop near the entrance to Jerusalem. Two Palestinian attackers opened fire, tragically killing at least three people and injuring eight others. Israeli police confirmed the attackers used an M-16 rifle and a handgun in the assault.

    Attackers Neutralized at the Scene

The perpetrators, originating from East Jerusalem, were neutralized at the scene by off-duty soldiers and a civilian. Security camera footage broadcasted by Israel’s Channel 12 displayed the harrowing moments of the attack. A white car stopped next to the crowded bus stop, from which two men emerged with guns and charged at the people, causing panic and chaos.

    Political and Diplomatic Reactions

The incident prompted a response from Israeli cabinet minister Benny Gantz, who reaffirmed Israel’s resolve to combat terrorism. The attack garnered attention during U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Tel Aviv, where he expressed condolences to the victims and highlighted the ongoing threat of terrorism in Israel.

Emergency Response and Ongoing Ceasefire Negotiations

In response to the attack, a significant number of first responders and security forces were dispatched to the scene, which was teeming with commuters. Efforts were underway to restore normalcy in the area. Concurrently, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement to extend their ceasefire in Gaza by an additional day, providing more time for negotiations regarding prisoner swaps.
