A remarkable event celebrating Concrete Day recently took place in Greater Kailash, Jammu, organized by Ultratech in collaboration with the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI). The event brought together experts and professionals to shed light on the pivotal role that concrete plays in shaping our cities and societies, as well as the need for sustainability in construction practices.
Guest of Honor’s Insights
Rajan Mengi, Chief Engineer of PMGSY Jammu, graced the event as the chief guest and delivered an insightful address. He emphasized how concrete has been instrumental in the construction of vital infrastructure, connecting communities through bridges, reaching for the skies with skyscrapers, and facilitating commerce and travel via highways. However, he also expressed concerns about the environmental challenges associated with concrete production, such as the increasing carbon footprint and resource depletion. He called upon engineers and architects to take a more prominent role in creating a resilient and sustainable environment in this modern era.
Expert Lecture on Cover Zone Properties
Dr. Anurag Mishra, Chairman of ICI and Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at IIT Jammu, delivered an enlightening lecture during the event. His presentation, titled “Importance of Cover Zone Properties & Their Assessment,” emphasized the significance of following good practices during the construction of reinforced concrete structures. Dr. Mishra highlighted the importance of maintaining the proper cover zone during concreting and discussed its direct impact on the durability of concrete structures.

The event also featured prominent personalities from the field of civil engineering, including Dr. SK Gupta, Head of the Civil Engineering Department at GCET Jammu, Mohit Mahajan, Chief Engineer from PWD R&B, Rajesh Gupta, Chief Engineer from PWD R&B, Rahul Goel, Zonal Head of Ultratech North B, Mukesh Jha, Deputy General Manager of Ultratech North B, Dr. Vijay Singh Rathore, Regional Head Sales of Ultratech J&K, and Vishal Thakur, Regional Head Technical of J&K.
