India-US Special Forces Kick Off “Vajra Prahar 2023” Exercise
The 14th edition of the Indo-US Joint Special Forces exercise “Vajra Prahar 2023” began at the Joint Training Node, Umroi. This exercise is a collaborative effort between the Indian Army and US Army Special Forces.
Participating Forces
The US contingent comprises personnel from the 1st Special Forces Group (SFG) of the US Special Forces, while the Indian Army’s team is led by Special Forces personnel from the Eastern Command.
Objectives of Vajra Prahar
Exercise Vajra Prahar focuses on sharing best practices and experiences in joint mission planning and operational tactics. It serves as a platform for both armies to enhance their skills in special operations and counter-terrorism operations.
History and Evolution
The exercise was first conducted in India in 2010, with the 13th edition taking place at the Special Forces Training School (SFTS) in Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh. The current edition is being held in Umroi Cantonment, Meghalaya, from November 21 to December 11.
Training Highlights
The three-week exercise will include joint planning and execution of a series of operations in mountainous terrain, simulating both conventional and unconventional scenarios. Key activities include combat free fall, waterborne operations, long-range precision engagement, combat air control, and airborne troop insertion.
Building Interoperability and Cooperation
Vajra Prahar has become an important mechanism for the exchange of ideas and best practices between the Special Forces of India and the USA. It plays a crucial role in enhancing interoperability and strengthening defense cooperation between the two nations.
