J-K DGP Swain Enhances Grievance Handling with New Public Forum
The Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, R R Swain, is set to introduce a regular forum for addressing public grievances, as announced by the police on Saturday. Having assumed the role on October 31, Swain is keen on enhancing accessibility for those seeking to raise complaints or concerns.
In an official statement issued by the police headquarters, individuals with grievances are encouraged to submit a written statement or application. To streamline the process, the DGP has scheduled two-hour public grievance meetings twice a month. Specifically, every second and fourth Saturday of the month, from 2 pm to 4 pm, has been designated for addressing issues related to police administration.

The decision was prompted by the observation that people were approaching the police headquarters in Jammu without prior appointments, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of clarity on the procedure to meet the DGP. In response, Swain emphasized the importance of individuals reaching out to junior officers who possess the authority to address grievances. Directly approaching the DGP without involving relevant field officers was deemed an unhealthy practice.
Consequently, priority will be given to those who have sought assistance from field police units but have not yet found resolution for their grievances. This initiative aims to create a more organized and efficient system for addressing public grievances within the jurisdiction, ensuring that concerns are channeled through appropriate channels for timely redressal.
