No Immediate US Talks, Calls Vance’s Dialogue Initiative a Positive Step, Says Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

No Immediate US Talks, Calls Vance’s Dialogue Initiative a Positive Step, Says Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

TEHRAN, October 31, 2026 (VoM News): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran has no immediate plans to meet US officials, dismissing reports of upcoming talks as media speculation while describing a US initiative to open dialogue as a positive step.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Araghchi said Iran saw no need for a meeting with Washington at present, adding that Tehran’s conditions were clear and mediators were continuing consultations.

He said any decision on whether to pursue direct or indirect negotiations would depend on whether Iran’s conditions were met.

Araghchi also confirmed that Iranian officials had examined a letter sent by US Vice President JD Vance during high-level meetings. He described Washington’s effort to open a channel for dialogue and broader understanding as “a positive step.”

However, the Iranian foreign minister cautioned that the initiative could further complicate relations if its purpose was to create divisions.

“If Washington’s goal in sending this letter is to stir up discord, it would be yet another mistake to add to its previous ones,” Araghchi told Al Jazeera.

His remarks indicate that while Tehran has acknowledged the US outreach, it is not currently committing to formal talks.

The next step, he said, depends on Iran’s stated conditions and ongoing consultations involving mediators.
