Father-Son Duo Arrested for Alleged Murder of SPO in Kishtwar, Land Dispute Suspected
KISHTWAR, October 19, 2026 [VoM News]: Police have arrested a man and his son for their alleged involvement in the murder of Special Police Officer Bashir Ahmad in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, with investigators suspecting a land dispute as the motive.
The throat-slit body of the SPO was recovered from a pit in the Seran Wani area of Trigam forest on October 16, a day after he went missing while returning home from a local police picket.
His service weapon, which had also been reported missing, was subsequently recovered from the forest area.
Following the recovery of the body, police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station Kishtwar and launched an investigation.
Police identified the arrested accused as Bashir Ahmed Dar and his son Nazir Ahmed Dar, both residents of Seran Wani.
A police spokesperson said their questioning revealed an alleged conspiracy and motive behind the killing. The weapon allegedly used in the crime and belongings of the deceased that had been concealed were also recovered following disclosures by the accused, police said.
Officials said the accused were distant relatives of the SPO and had reportedly been involved in a land dispute with him for some time.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
