Srinagar-Bound Bus Attacked in Haryana, Two Held; Omar Abdullah Seeks Strict Action
SRINAGAR, October 19, 2026 [VoM News]: Two men have been detained after a Srinagar-bound sleeper bus was attacked with stones in Haryana’s Karnal district, leaving a passenger and a roadside dhaba employee injured, police said.
The Delhi-Srinagar bus, carrying around 40 passengers, had stopped at Divine Star Dhaba on Saturday night when an altercation broke out. Stones were subsequently thrown at the vehicle, smashing windowpanes and damaging parts of the bus.
Haryana Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the incident stemmed from a dispute involving the bus and two youths travelling in a car. An FIR has been registered and both suspects were taken into custody for questioning.

The bus driver, however, alleged that the attackers used derogatory remarks referring to the vehicle and its occupants as terrorists. Claims that the vehicle was targeted because of its Jammu and Kashmir registration are being investigated and have not been independently established.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the incident and took up the matter with the Haryana government, which assured prompt action.
The J&K government said it was monitoring the situation and standing with the affected passengers. The bus later resumed its journey towards Jammu and Kashmir.
