Israel Targets Hamas Gaza Leader Ali al-Amoudi in Airstrike; Five Reported Killed
GAZA CITY, October 4, 2026 [VoM News]: Israel has acknowledged Saturday that it struck a senior Hamas official, Ali al-Amoudi, in Gaza City with an airstrike in which four female residents were killed, while the Palestinian authorities claimed that at least five people were killed overall.
According to the Israeli military, al-Amoudi is the most senior Hamas member active in the Gaza Strip, and the former “right-hand man” of slain Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar. Israel has charged him with being involved in the preparations for the October 7, 2023 attack, and with trying to strengthen Hamas’s military forces.
The Israeli military stated it was still determining if al-Amoudi had been killed or injured during the attack. Intelligence suggested al-Amoudi had been in an apartment block at the time of the attack, Israel said. The military said it targeted civilians as a precaution, and that Hamas operated among civilians, and that civilian casualties were minimised by using precision weapons. The military expressed regret for “injuries” to third parties.

The strike took place approximately one year after the Hamas terror attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 (Jewish calendar). In October of 2024, Israel struck and killed Yahya Sinwar in Gaza. Khalil al-Hayya, who holds the top position in Hamas’s political bureau, is based in Qatar, and al-Amoudi has become the highest-ranking Hamas leader in Gaza, Israel says.
According to Israeli sources, some 1,200 were killed in Israel during the attack on October 7. Since the Palestinians’ subsequent military campaign began, over 74,000 people have reportedly been killed in Gaza, according to Gaza health officials.
The casualty figures from Gaza do not generally distinguish between civilians and combatants.
