Russian Drone Attack Hits Indian-Linked Kusum Pharma Plant in Ukraine’s Sumy; One Killed

KYIV, October 4, 2026 [VoM News]: The drone attack on the plant of Indian-origin Kusum Pharma in Ukraine’s Sumy has killed one person, according to Russian media.

At least one person was killed and several others injured in a Russian drone strike yesterday on a pharmaceutical plant owned by the Kusum Group, which is involved in the Indian pharmaceutical industry, in the Ukrainian city of Sumy, reports said.

The building’s main structure was said to be damaged extensively. The area was hit with a large amount of smoke visible in images and videos, and the severity of the damage and casualties was not yet known.
Indian media quoted the preliminary estimates of damage to the facility at Rs 400 crore and above. The figure is still preliminary and hasn’t been independently verified.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the death of one person and said that the Russian army had attacked a pharmaceutical plant in Sumy with drones. He also mentioned the attacks against Kyiv and Dnipro in the current round of Russian strikes.

The Kusum Group is known for its extensive connection with India and it has pharmaceutical manufacturing plants in both India and Ukraine. According to its official website, Kusum Pharm has manufacturing facilities in Sumy, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

The company produces both prescription and non-prescription pharmaceutical products and has operations in a number of markets abroad. Its Sumy plant had been producing throughout the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and was damaged in the latest attack.

The strike occurred as the latest round of Russian drone strikes in Ukraine. In recent weeks, Ukraine’s military has seen an uptick in the use of more agile drones that are powered by more powerful jets for attacks on its cities and infrastructure, officials have said.

It was unclear immediately how many people were killed and how much damage was done to operations at Kusum Group.
