Principal Accounts, Pay and Accounts Offices to Remain Open on Sunday AHEAD of 3-Day Bank Strike

SRINAGAR, 26 Sept, 2026 [VoM News]: Principal Accounts Offices (Pr AOs) and Pay and Accounts Offices (PAOs), placed under the administrative control of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), will be kept open on Sunday, 27 September 2026, prior to the three-day nationwide bank strike from 28 to 30 September, 2026.

To facilitate processing of government transactions during the quarter-end, an Office Memorandum issued by the Office of the Controller General of Accounts said that all concerned Pr AOs and PAOs shall take administrative measures to ensure continuity of working on Sunday, 27 September 2026.

Under the special arrangement, all the Pr AOs and PAOs functioning under the administrative control of CGA will be opened on Sunday. Reference was made to an Office Memorandum issued by the Office of the CGA on 25 September 2026, to this effect.

“The undersigned is directed to state that in connection with the proposed nationwide strike by banks for three days from 28.09.2026 to 30.09.2026, it is decided to keep the Pr AOs and PAOs functioning on 27.09.2026, on all Government of India and other accounts, to facilitate time bound transactions to be made before the quarterly closing,” the Office Memorandum said.

While keeping the accounts offices open on Sunday, the CGA said in the order that this has been done to facilitate time bound Government transactions before the quarterly closing.

However, CGA’s statement would only result in the Pr AOs and PAOs remaining open and serve none of the government offices or banks.
