IAS Officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar Taken Into Custody Over KPSC Exam Irregularities
Bengaluru, August 30 [VoM News]: An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer has been taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over allegations of irregularities in a Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment examination.
The officer, Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, a 2016-batch IAS officer, has been in CID custody since being questioned on Saturday for the second day in a row, sources said. Gangwar had allegedly refused to cooperate with the investigators.
He was questioned by the CID for over nine hours in the KPSC recruitment examination irregularities and malpractices scam on Friday. Gangwar was allegedly serving as the Controller of Examinations in KPSC, a post from where he was replaced in March this year, the CID officials said. Gangwar is currently the Director-MSME in the Department of Industries and Commerce in the state.
“He was taken into custody after failing to provide satisfactory answers during the sustained questioning over the two days by the CID investigators,” sources confirmed.
The probe relates to alleged manipulation of results of the KPSC veterinary officer examination. The initial complaint pertaining to KPSC examinations was filed with the Vidhana Soudha police, but it was subsequently transferred to the CID for detailed investigation in the KPSC exam scam.
Earlier, on August 23, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the houses of Gangwar in Bengaluru and Bareilly in the money-laundering case probing the alleged scam of KPSC exam. The further developments in the case were expected with the investigations going on to scrutinise the complicity of KPSC officers and other concerned officials.
