At Least Eight Killed in School Shooting in Thailand; Teen Suspect Dies

Bangkok, Aug. 7 [VoM News]: At least eight people were killed and 15 others injured in a school shooting at a high school in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province on Friday. The suspected gunman, a teenage student, also died, police said.

According to Thai authorities, the shooting took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district. Initial reports said at least six victims, including teachers, were killed inside the school, while the suspect’s grandparents were found dead at their home, allegedly killed before the attack.

Police said the suspected shooter was a ninth-grade student, typically around 14 years old. Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect died by suicide or was shot by police during the incident.

Thailand’s Public Health Minister said the injured students were not struck by gunfire but sustained injuries while attempting to flee the school during the attack.

Local broadcaster Thai PBS reported that between 10 and 15 people were injured. Emergency responders released photographs showing students evacuating the campus and victims being treated outside the school.

According to district authorities, Debsirin Nonthaburi School had approximately 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The motive behind the attack and the circumstances leading up to it remain unclear.

Thailand has one of the highest rates of civilian gun ownership in Southeast Asia. According to estimates, around 10 million firearms are in circulation across the country, despite repeated calls to strengthen gun control laws following several high-profile shootings in recent years.
