8 Islamic Nations Welcome Trump’s Board of Peace Initiative on Gaza

World | January 22, 2026: Foreign ministers from eight Islamic countries, including several key Arab states, have welcomed an invitation from U.S. President Donald J. Trump to join the newly proposed “Board of Peace,” signaling collective support for international efforts aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, the foreign ministers of Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates confirmed that their countries had accepted the invitation extended by the U.S. President. The statement said the nations had agreed, in principle, to join the Board of Peace and would complete the formal process in line with their respective legal and procedural requirements.

Egypt, Pakistan and the UAE, the ministers noted, have already announced their decision to participate.

The statement reaffirmed the group’s backing for peace efforts led by President Trump and underlined their commitment to supporting the Board of Peace as a transitional administration. The body’s mandate, as outlined in the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict and endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, includes consolidating a lasting ceasefire, facilitating Gaza’s reconstruction, and advancing a just and durable peace.

The ministers stressed that any long-term settlement must be grounded in international law and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood, describing this as essential for long-term security and stability across the region.

The “Board of Peace” was unveiled as part of the second phase of a fragile ceasefire agreement with Hamas, according to Al Jazeera. Under the proposal, the board would play a central role in post-conflict governance, reconstruction planning, investment mobilisation and broader regional engagement.

The Trump administration has since expanded the scope of the initiative. While the board was initially envisioned as a small group of world leaders overseeing the Gaza ceasefire, invitations have now been sent to dozens of countries worldwide. A White House official said around 50 nations were invited, with roughly 30 expected to join, though no official list has been released.

According to an Associated Press tally, several countries have already signaled their intention to participate, including Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and the UAE. Others, including France, Germany, Italy, Britain and the European Union’s executive arm, have declined the invitation so far, while a number of states remain undecided.

Chaired by President Trump, the Board of Peace is being positioned as a potential platform not only for overseeing Gaza’s recovery but also for broader conflict mediation efforts, marking a significant expansion of U.S.-led diplomatic engagement in the region.
