
7.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern Philippines; Casualties Feared
JUNE 08, 2026 [VoM News]: The Philippines, which remains one of the world’s most disaster-prone nations due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, today witnessed a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake, triggering tsunami warnings and widespread shocks.

As per details available with VoM News, at least fifteen people have died, while more than 200 were injured at the time of filing this report, after the powerful earthquake struck southern Philippines.
The epicentre was located around 32 kilometres southwest of Maasim town in Sarangani Province on Mindanao Island, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Strong tremors were felt across several neighbouring regions, also triggering tsunami warnings.
Reports said rescue operations have been initiated, while assessment measures are underway. The number of casualties is likely to increase.
