Authorities in Kupwara Ban Under-18 Students from Using Motorcycles During School
In an effort to curb reckless driving and ensure the safety of students, the authorities in Kupwara district have taken a significant step by prohibiting the use of motorbikes and scooters by students during school hours. This directive has been issued by the Additional District Magistrate of Kupwara through a formal circular.
Circular Issued to Address Complaints
The circular highlights a growing concern among the public and media regarding the dangerous behavior of school boys on two-wheelers.
Reports of rash driving, stunt biking, and overall reckless movement of motorbikes around school premises have been rising. These activities have led to several avoidable accidents, prompting the authorities to take immediate action.
The directive emphasizes the need for proper counseling, advice, and a strict ban on the use of motorbikes and scooters by students within and around school grounds.
Role of Law Enforcement and School Administration
To enforce this new regulation, the Additional Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic Kupwara, and Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kupwara have been tasked with sensitizing the heads of educational institutions.
They are instructed not to allow any student under the age of 18 to use a motorbike or scooter during school hours.
Furthermore, students are prohibited from riding without helmets and valid driving licenses issued by the competent authority.
Surprise Checks and Monitoring
To ensure compliance with this directive, Zonal Education Officers are mandated to conduct surprise checks in and around school premises.
These checks aim to discourage the emerging trend of reckless driving among students and to reinforce the importance of following traffic rules. The authorities believe that this stringent measure will significantly reduce the risk of accidents and promote a safer environment for students.
This move by the Kupwara district administration underscores the importance of road safety and responsible behavior among young students, aiming to protect their lives and well-being.
