Polling teams in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district have left for their assigned polling stations with electronic voting machines (EVMs), as preparations continue for the first phase of the upcoming assembly elections, scheduled for September 18.
A total of 534 polling teams were dispatched to remote areas in Doda to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
The first phase of polling will cover 24 assembly constituencies across the Union Territory (UT), and polling parties from Ramban and Kishtwar districts have also been sent out with EVMs.
Congress leader Pawan Khera, speaking on Monday, reaffirmed the Congress-National Conference alliance’s commitment to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. “Jammu and Kashmir must regain its status as a state, and we will ensure this happens,” Khera told ANI.
He also expressed confidence that the people would defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming elections. He pointed to Congress’s track record in states like Rajasthan and Karnataka as evidence of the party’s credibility.
Meanwhile, BJP election in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Ram Madhav, predicted a major political shift, claiming that the National Conference (NC), Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress would be ousted from power by voters. Madhav stated, “A significant change is coming, and the NC, PDP, and Congress will be voted out.”
The assembly elections will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and November 1, with votes set to be counted on October 8.
