47,000 Wheat Sacks Missing in Pakistan’s Sindh; Worth PKR 800 Million
As reported by ARY News, 47,000 wheat sacks valued at PKR 800 million, produced by the Sindh government, have vanished from a government warehouse in Sindh’s Khairpur district. This incident has prompted action from the Sindh Food Department, leading to the suspension of three food officers, including the district food controller, food supervisor in charge, and food inspector.
Repeat Offense
This disappearance of wheat is not an isolated incident. In 2022, thousands of metric tons of wheat also disappeared from Sindh government warehouses in Naushehro Feroze, according to ARY News. The recurrence of such incidents raises questions about the security and management of government food stocks in the region.
Government Response and Future Plans
Following the latest incident, the Sindh cabinet convened a meeting at the CM House to address the issue and set a wheat procurement target of 900,000 tonnes. The meeting, attended by provincial ministers, advisors, and officials, underscores the importance of accountability and measures to prevent such losses in the future.
