3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Central Assam
On Monday evening, central Assam experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6, according to an official bulletin. The National Center for Seismology reported that the earthquake occurred at 7:12 pm, with its epicenter in East Karbi Anglong district on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra, at a depth of 23 km. The exact location is approximately 170 km east-southeast from Guwahati, near the Nagaland border.
Residents in West Karbi Anglong, Hojai, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, and Nagaon districts reported feeling the tremors. The earthquake was also noticeable in some areas of Nagaland and Manipur. No immediate reports of injuries or property damage have been received.
The northeastern region is situated in a high seismic zone, making earthquakes a frequent occurrence.
