279 Candidates File Nominations for Phase-I of JK Assembly Elections

A total of 279 candidates have submitted their nomination papers across 24 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir for the first phase of the J&K Assembly Election 2024. The last day to file nominations for the upcoming election was August 27, 2024, with polling scheduled for September 18, 2024.

According to a statement from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Anantnag district saw the highest number of nominations with 72 candidates, followed by Pulwama with 55, and Doda with 41. Kishtwar district had 32 candidates, Shopian and Kulgam both had 28, and Ramban district saw 23 candidates filing their nominations.

In the Jammu division, for the three ACs in Kishtwar, 13 candidates filed nominations for Inderwal, 11 for Kishtwar, and 8 for Padder-Nagseni. Doda district had 16 nominations each for Bhadarwah and Doda ACs, with 9 candidates for Doda West AC. Ramban district saw 13 nominations for Ramban AC and 10 for Banihal AC.

In the Kashmir division, Pulwama district saw 16 nominations for Pampore AC, 13 for Tral AC, 14 for Pulwama AC, and 12 for Rajpora AC. Shopian district had 15 candidates for Zainapora AC and 13 for Shopian AC.

In Kulgam district, DH Pora, Kulgam, and Devsar ACs saw 6, 11, and 11 nominations, respectively. Anantnag district’s seven ACs had varying nominations, with the lowest being 3 for Srigufwara-Bijbehara AC.

Over 23.27 lakh voters, including 5.66 lakh youth voters, are eligible to vote in this phase. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on August 28, 2024, with candidates allowed to withdraw their nominations by August 30, 2024.
