Jammu, Feb 23: The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on Monday reserved its order on a petition challenging the detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik.
Malik, who serves as president of the Aam Aadmi Partyโs Jammu and Kashmir unit, was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) on September 8 last year on allegations of disturbing public order. He was subsequently lodged in Kathua jail.
On September 24, Malik filed a habeas corpus petition before the High Court, contesting his detention and seeking compensation.
The matter was heard by Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani, who has reserved the case for pronouncement of orders, according to Advocate Appu Singh Slathia.
Slathia stated that the court has granted both parties โ Malikโs legal team and the State โ one week to submit written synopses or any additional submissions if required.
Describing the proceedings as a lengthy legal process, Slathia said the team remains confident in the judicial system and urged supporters to stay calm and patient as the matter awaits a final decision.
Further updates are expected once the court delivers its order.
