Young Rabab Virtuoso Ishfaq Hamid Receives Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar Award
Thirteen-year-old Ishfaq Hamid, a talented Rabab player from Kreeri Baramulla, has earned the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar Award, bringing pride to Kashmir. The award was presented by President of India Smt Daroupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan on Monday. Ishfaq, also skilled in playing Matka, had previously received NGO Sarhad’s Bhai Mardana National Award in 2020. Starting to learn Rabab at the age of eight from his father, Ishfaq expressed joy upon learning about receiving the award from the President of India.
A Multitalented Artist with Recognition
Ishfaq, currently in the sixth standard, began learning Rabab after seeing his cousin excel in the instrument. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging his talent. Apart from the recent awards, Ishfaq has received praise during the thirteenth Kashmir festival and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Prakash Parv. Representing the fourth generation of the Bhat Family, Rabab playing has been a legacy passed down through generations.
A Legacy of Rabab Maestros
Ishfaq’s father, Abdul Hamid Bhat, with 35 years of Rabab playing experience, inherited the skill from his father and represented Kashmir at the G20 Summit. His grandfather, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, is a renowned Kashmiri Rabab maestro who graced Radio Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, congratulated Ishfaq for his achievement, emphasizing that Ishfaq’s success brings immense pride to J&K.
National Recognition for Exceptional Children
Nineteen exceptional children from various states, including Jammu and Kashmir, have been recognized in categories like Bravery, Art & Culture, Environment, Innovation, Science & Technology, Social Service, and Sports. The awardees, nine boys and ten girls, will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 23 to share their inspiring stories and experiences. They will also march in the Republic Day parade on January 26.
