A 28-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her estranged husband and her partner in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district. The two suspects, inspired by the Bollywood movie “Drishyam,” buried her body in a forest to evade arrest, police reported on Monday.
The crime occurred on July 19, and the two accused, Lukesh Sahu (29) and Raja Ram Sahu (26), were arrested on Sunday. Lukesh was the woman’s estranged husband, while Raja Ram was her partner.
The incident came to light after the woman’s father, Ramkhilawan Sahu, filed a missing person report at Lohara police station on July 22, prompting an investigation.
Three years ago, Lukesh separated from his wife, suspecting her of infidelity, and she moved back to her paternal home in Kalyanpur. A court ordered Lukesh to pay monthly maintenance for their three children, leading him into debt.
Simultaneously, the woman was in a relationship with Raja Ram, who became frustrated with her demands for money. He claimed to have already given her Rs 1.50 lakh in cash and various electronic items.
The two men, who were acquainted, decided to eliminate the woman. They spent a month planning the murder and watched “Drishyam” to learn how to conceal the crime. Raja Ram reportedly watched the movie four times, while Lukesh viewed it once.
On July 19, Raja Ram lured the woman to Ghanikhuta forest, where Lukesh joined them. The two then strangled her with her saree, buried her body, and disposed of her belongings.
The police, using call records and technical evidence, tracked down and arrested the accused.
