West Bengal, September 11, 2023: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called on the Centre to release MNREGA funds due to the state during a press conference on Monday. Banerjee criticized the non-release of funds, emphasizing that they are owed to the state’s very poor people.
The Trinamool Congress had previously sought permission to protest against the non-release of NREGA dues at three venues in Delhi next month. Banerjee clarified that while Delhi police is not the enemy, they may not grant permission for a protest at Rajghat, as that would be a political decision. However, she stated that they can still visit Rajghat for prayers, as it is always permissible.
Banerjee also announced a cabinet reshuffle, moving Babul Supriyo from the tourism department to IT and renewable energy.
Furthermore, Banerjee revealed that she would be traveling abroad after five years, as permission for foreign travel had not been granted earlier. She is scheduled to visit Dubai and Spain to seek investments.
During the press conference, Banerjee criticized the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu, referring to it as a “political vendetta.” She expressed concern over the harassment of Abhishek Banerjee, another TMC leader, and highlighted the arrest of N. Chandrababu Naidu, which she deemed unacceptable. Banerjee emphasized the need to avoid vindictiveness, noting that it could backfire.
