US Tariff Offensive Sparks Diplomatic Ripples
International Mediator Faisal Muhammed, speaking to VOM News from Brussels, cautioned that US President Donald Trump’s strategy of leveraging tariffs as a tool of political and economic coercion could backfire, undermining global trade stability and eroding Washington’s alliances. He stressed that targeting India, a longstanding US ally at a time when global economic and defense coalitions are rapidly consolidating, is strategically unwise. Such an approach, he warned, may inadvertently push India towards deeper cooperation with the anti-American camp, altering the regional power matrix.
Opportunity for a New Geopolitical Axis
Faisal Muhammed observed that Trump’s tariff imposition has created an opening for New Delhi to recalibrate its foreign policy, potentially fostering closer ties with neighboring China. A strengthened alignment between India, Russia, and China three nuclear powers could dramatically shift the balance of power in Asia.

Recalling that Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan once envisioned uniting Pakistan, Russia, and China to counterbalance Western influence, Faisal noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi now stands poised to seize this geopolitical opportunity.
Within the BRICS framework, he added, these nations could achieve their economic aspirations through intra-bloc trade, reducing dependence on the United States.
