Vikar Rasool Gets 5-Month Prison Sentence

Vikar Rasool Wani, the former Jammu and Kashmir Congress president and current candidate from Banihal constituency, has been found guilty along with five others.

Daily Excelsior reported that the court has sentenced them to five months in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 1000 each.

The case dates back to the 2012 Assembly elections when a public meeting was organized at the Junior High School in Mithepur village of Gulavathi without permission.

Wani addressed the gathering, leading to a case being registered against him and the others by then Block Development Officer Siyaram Varshney for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

After being heard in the Special MP MLA Court, the court found the charges valid and handed down the sentence.

Wani, along with Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Sachin, Ikramuddin, and Nazim, will serve five months in prison and pay a fine of one thousand rupees each.

This verdict comes as Wani is currently running for the Banihal Assembly seat.
