US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin are scheduled to travel to India for the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with their Indian counterparts, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The visit to New Delhi is part of a more than week-long trip, with Blinken’s journey beginning on November 2 and extending to November 10, starting with visits to Israel and Jordan before continuing to Japan, South Korea, and India. The exact dates for the India visit have yet to be announced.

Agenda for the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue

During the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in New Delhi, the US delegation will meet with Indian officials, including Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar and Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh. The discussions will encompass both bilateral issues and global concerns, with a focus on developments in the Indo-Pacific region.

    Prior Destinations on Blinken’s Trip

Before the visit to India, Secretary Blinken is set to visit Israel, where he will express US support for Israel’s right to self-defense against terrorism and discuss various aspects related to the ongoing situation in the region. He will then travel to Jordan to emphasize the importance of protecting civilian lives and delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza while working towards reducing tensions and ensuring regional stability.

Importance of Tokyo and Seoul Visits

Following India, Blinken will lead US delegations to Tokyo and Seoul. In Tokyo, he will participate in the second G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of 2023 and hold bilateral meetings to discuss various priorities, including support for Ukraine’s economic recovery and strengthening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. In Seoul, discussions will cover topics like responses to global challenges, including Russia’s war against Ukraine, Russia’s cooperation with North Korea, and instability in the Middle East. The visits to Japan and South Korea will also underscore the US commitment to the defense of both countries and continued trilateral engagement following the Camp David Summit in August.
