US Ambassador Sergio Gor Arrives in Kashmir’s Srinagar for 2-Day J&K and Ladakh Visit

SRINAGAR, August 19, 2026, [VoM News] :The United States Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, made his arrival in Srinagar today. His two-day journey to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is a significant diplomatic visit to the region by the United States.

Mr. Gor, also serving as US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, is slated to hold meetings with key officials while in J&K, including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

This trip makes him the first American envoy to venture into Kashmir since last year’s Operation Sindoor. Mr. Gor is also expected to journey to Ladakh on Thursday, marking the first such visit to the region by a US Ambassador since the intense clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley back in June 2020.

Mr. Gor’s visit happens as regional politics continue to morph, including increasing ties between President Trump and Pakistan’s leadership, encompassing both civilian and military entities. India has also been attentive to US claims that President Trump played a role in resolving the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, a claim New Delhi has consistently dismissed, stating instead that Pakistan initiated the ceasefire.

The encounter between Ambassador Gor and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is particularly noteworthy given that Jammu and Kashmir now has its own elected government. CM Abdullah has also vocalized support for the restoration of statehood and protection of constitutional safeguards for the region.

Previously, the last US Ambassador to grace Srinagar was Kenneth Juster, who visited in January 2020 as part of a diplomatic group that traveled to Kashmir shortly after the abrogation of Article 370.
