UIDAI Introduces Physical Verification for New Aadhaar Applicants Above 18

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has implemented a novel physical verification system for individuals aged 18 and above seeking their first Aadhaar card, aiming to fortify security and authentication.

Mirroring Passport Verification
This new system replicates the verification mechanism employed for passports, adding an additional layer of security to the Aadhaar enrollment process.

Consent and Supervision at Local Levels
The initiative mandates state government consent and the appointment of nodal officers, such as additional district magistrates, at district and sub-divisional tiers to oversee the process. Aadhaar enrollment will occur at selected centers, including district main post offices and designated UIDAI centers.

Quality Checks and Authenticity Assurance
All applications will undergo meticulous data quality examinations before proceeding for verification through a service portal. Sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) will supervise the verification process, ensuring authenticity. Aadhaar cards will be issued within 180 days post-verification clearance. UIDAI’s Deputy Director-General, Prashant Kumar Singh, clarified that this policy solely applies to initial applicants above 18, allowing updates through standard processes thereafter.
