UDAN Scheme Connects 499 Routes, Facilitating 1.3 Crore Passengers
The government announced that the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) regional air connectivity scheme has successfully operationalized 499 routes, significantly impacting India’s civil aviation industry. Launched six years ago, this scheme has facilitated travel for over 1.3 crore people and led to the emergence of four new airlines in the market, thereby driving demand for new aircraft.
Enabling Regional Airlines to Expand and Thrive
UDAN has created an environment conducive to the growth of small regional airlines such as FlyBig, Star Air, and IndiaOne Air. It has not only empowered these regional carriers but has also led to the growth of India’s civil aviation industry.

Diverse Aircraft Fleet Serving UDAN Routes
The incremental expansion of the UDAN scheme has not only increased the number of routes but also spurred the demand for various types of aircraft. The scheme has diversified the fleet, ranging from helicopters, seaplanes, 3-seat propeller planes to jet planes. Currently, a wide array of aircraft, including Airbus 320/321, Boeing 737, ATR 42 and 72, DHC Q400, Twin Otter, Embraer 145 and 175, and Tecnam P2006T, is actively serving the RCS routes.
India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, stated that UDAN has unleashed the country’s potential by promoting tourism, boosting trade, and empowering local economies. India is one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets globally.
