In a tragic incident, two young siblings lost their lives, and their mother was seriously injured after a snake bit them while they were asleep at their home in Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, early on Saturday.

The victims, Vandana Katyal (6) and her younger brother Divansh Katyal (3), along with their mother Kajol Devi, were staying in a rented accommodation in Ransoo village when the incident occurred, according to police officials.

The family was discovered in critical condition after the snakebite and was immediately rushed to a nearby Public Health Centre. Due to the severity of the situation, they were later transferred to Sunderbani Hospital.

Despite medical efforts, both children succumbed to the venom and were pronounced dead. Their mother, Kajol Devi, is battling for her life, with her condition described as “serious” by authorities.

The snakebite, which occurred during the early hours of the morning while the family slept, has left the local community in shock and mourning. Police are investigating the incident, and efforts are being made to ensure the safety of residents in the area.

Snakebite cases, though uncommon in some regions, can lead to fatalities, especially when medical intervention is delayed or the snake is highly venomous.

This tragic case highlights the importance of prompt treatment in such scenarios and raises concerns about safety in rural areas prone to wildlife encounters.
