Trichy Airport Authorities Seize 24K Gold Worth Rs 64.51 Lakh Concealed in Passenger’s Rectum
Officials from the Air Intelligence Unit at Trichy Airport apprehended a passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur and seized 1025.12 grams of 24K gold with a market value of Rs 64.51 lakh. The passenger has been detained, and an ongoing investigation is in progress, according to authorities. The gold, extracted from a substance resembling paste, was discreetly concealed within the passenger’s rectum.
Acting on specific intelligence, Trichy Airport’s AIU officers confiscated 1025.12 grams of 24K gold, valued at Rs 64.51 lakh. The gold, extracted from a paste-like material weighing 1120 grams, was concealed in the rectum of a Malaysian passenger who arrived on OD223 Batic Air Flight from Kuala Lumpur on January 8, 2024, officials disclosed.
This incident follows a similar occurrence in December, where the AIU at Trichy Airport seized 432 grams of 24K gold, worth Rs 27.41 lakh, from a passenger arriving from Sharjah (United Arab Emirates).
Earlier in October, the AIU at Trichy Airport intercepted a passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, seizing a 24K gold bar weighing 717 grams and valued at Rs 42.91 lakh. The gold was extracted from capsules containing gold paste concealed in the passenger’s rectum.
Moreover, in the same month, the AIU at Trichy Airport discovered gold worth Rs 1,08,10,800 concealed in paste-like materials hidden in the shoes and underwear of the children accompanying a male passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
