An 8-year-old boy, Muhammad Rizwan Wani, met a tragic fate as he drowned in a water tank located within the premises of a mosque in the Adarsh Colony area of Udhampur city. The incident occurred last night, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Desperate Search for the Missing Child

Muhammad Rizwan Wani, hailing from the Batote area of Ramban district, left his home on his bicycle to attend prayers at Jamia Mosque in Adarsh Colony but failed to return. Concerned, his parents initiated a search and discovered his bicycle parked outside the mosque’s boundary wall. With the assistance of locals and mosque officials, they traced some evidence near the water tank, heightening their worries.

Heartbreaking Discovery and Immediate Response

As the night progressed, the child’s father found his son’s slippers near the water tank during late-night prayers, prompting an intensified search. With collective efforts, the community located the boy inside the tank. Despite frantic attempts to revive him, Muhammad Rizwan Wani was pronounced dead upon arrival at Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur.The young victim’s family, originally from Batote, had been residing in a rented accommodation in Adarsh Colony for several years. His mortal remains were transported to his native village for final rites, marking the end of a promising young life cut tragically short.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a poignant reminder of the need for heightened safety measures around water bodies, urging communities to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing such devastating losses.
