Heartbreaking Discovery
In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in the quiet corners of Bengaluru Rural district, four members of a family hailing from West Bengal met a tragic end within the confines of their modest single-room accommodation at a poultry farm. The victims were identified as Kale Sariki (60), Lakshmi Sariki (50), Usha Sariki (40), and Pool Sariki (16). Their lives were tragically cut short, leaving behind a profound sense of sorrow and mystery.
A Migration Tale
The Sariki family had journeyed from Alipurduar district in West Bengal to toil in a poultry farm located in Holeyarahalli, near Doddabelavangala, Doddaballapur taluk. Their pursuit of a better life had brought them to Karnataka, where they had been diligently working for the past ten days. However, destiny had a different plan in store for them.
The Ominous Smoke
The incident came to light on a fateful Sunday morning, when Kale’s daughter, who worked in a nearby village, grew anxious as her repeated calls to her family went unanswered. Fearing the worst, she rushed to the poultry farm and was greeted by a chilling sight – smoke ominously billowing from the sealed windows of their dwelling. Alarmed and distressed, she immediately sought the assistance of the local authorities.
The Grim Discovery
Upon arrival at the scene, the police faced a harrowing scene. The room was shrouded in thick smoke, concealing the lifeless bodies of the Sariki family. A charcoal heater, leaves, and the victims themselves were discovered in the room. The Forensic Science Laboratory experts were summoned to collect crucial evidence, while post-mortem examinations were conducted at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.
The Silent Killer
Preliminary investigations have unveiled a heartbreaking sequence of events. Following their customary dinner on a rainy Saturday night, the family retired to their cramped, poorly-ventilated room. In an attempt to ward off both the cold and mosquitoes, they lit a charcoal heater and used leaves as a makeshift mosquito repellent. Tragically, the lack of ventilation and the sealed room caused the smoke from the charcoal to engulf them, leading to their untimely demise. The initial reports strongly suggest that they perished due to asphyxiation, their lungs compromised by the toxic fumes.
Seeking Answers
While the police have ruled out foul play, as no visible injuries or poisonous substances were found, they await the autopsy report to confirm the exact cause of death. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and the investigation continues. The Sariki family’s hopes and dreams now rest in the hands of authorities, as they try to unravel the devastating mystery that has shaken Bengaluru.
