From Viral Parody to Tragedy: The Story of Mahmoud Zuaiter
Mahmoud Zuaiter gained recognition in 2014 when a Palestinian parody of a car advert featuring Belgian martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme, went viral. In the amusing twist, Van Damme’s stunt with two moving trucks was adapted in Gaza, showcasing two cars being pushed due to a lack of petrol.
Fast forward to 2024, Zuaiter, now in his late 30s, found himself holding an injured child in a heart-wrenching video after the airstrike. Expressing his love for Gaza and its people, he voiced his reluctance to leave despite the challenging circumstances.

The airstrike on Zuaiter’s home occurred amidst Israel’s ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip, intensifying its efforts to dismantle Hamas following the attacks on Israeli communities near the border with Palestine on October 7.
The retaliation has resulted in a significant loss of life, with civilians, including women and children, bearing the brunt. The situation remains critical, reflecting the broader geopolitical tensions in the region.
