
Terror Accused Found Guilty in Sarpanch Murder Case, Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Doda
Doda, October 08, 2025: Doda Police secured the conviction of a terror accused namely Irfan Ali, son of Shafqat Ali, resident of Kilhotran, Tehsil Gandoh, for offences punishable under Sections 302/34 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and Section 7/27 of the Arms Act for the imprisonment of life.
The case originated from an FIR No. 57/2002, registered at Police Station Gandoh on 04-07-2002, following the cold-blooded murder of an innocent civilian who happened to be the Sarpanch of his area Sh. Sher Mohd r/o Changa Gandoh, by the accused and his associates affiliated with a militant outfit. After committing the gruesome murder, the accused fled the scene.
A comprehensive investigation, led by the then Station House Officer of Police Station Gandoh, culminated in the filing of a challan before the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Bhaderwah, on 28-05-2019. The accused had remained in judicial custody since 2019.
After an extensive trial spanning over six years, the Hon’ble Sessions Court, Bhaderwah, vide its order dated 08-10-2025, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment for his barbaric act. The prosecution of the case was effectively conducted by Sh. K.K. Bandral, Chief Prosecuting Officer (CPO) Bhaderwah.
This conviction stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of Doda Police to ensure justice for victims of terrorism and to uphold peace, justice, and the rule of law in the district.
