Supreme Court to Hear Pleas of NewsClick Founder and HR Head on Arrest
The Supreme Court will hear the pleas of Prabir Purkayastha, founder of NewsClick, and Amit Chakravarty, the portal’s human resources head, challenging their arrest under the anti-terror law.
Their arrests on October 3 led to a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). They are accused of receiving foreign funds through Chinese firms. The Delhi High Court dismissed their pleas on October 13.
The Supreme Court will examine whether their arrests were illegal under UAPA due to not being provided with written grounds for arrest.
