SRH’s Travis Head Hits Fourth Fastest IPL Century with 104 Against RCB
Travis Head from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hit the fourth-quickest century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and set a new record for his team. He scored 102 runs off just 41 balls, including nine boundaries and eight sixes, against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Head’s strike rate was an impressive 248.78, reaching his hundred in only 39 balls.
The fastest IPL century remains Chris Gayle’s 30-ball blitz for RCB against Pune Warriors India in 2013. Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball century for Rajasthan Royals and David Miller’s 38-ball ton for Punjab Kings are next on the list. This season, Head reached his half-century during the powerplay for the second time, a feat achieved by former SRH captain David Warner six times.
In five matches, Head has amassed 235 runs at an average of 47.00 and a strike rate of 199.15, including a century and a fifty. His partnership with Abhishek Sharma produced a century in just 43 balls, matching SRH’s fastest-ever century stand set by David Warner and Moises Henriques in 2015. SRH’s innings featured a whopping 22 sixes, setting a new IPL record, surpassing RCB’s 21 sixes against PWI in 2013.
RCB chose to field first after winning the toss. A 108-run partnership between Head and Sharma laid the foundation. Klaasen then joined Head for a 57-run partnership, followed by a 66-run stand with Markram. Abdul Samad’s quick 37* off 10 balls pushed SRH to a formidable 287/3 in 20 overs. Lockie Ferguson was RCB’s top bowler, taking 2/52 in four overs.
