Sony’s Plans for PS5 Pro
Sony is reportedly developing a ‘Pro’ version of the PlayStation 5, targeting a launch later this year. Previous speculations suggested a PS5 Pro release before Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025. A recent report unveils detailed specifications of the upcoming console, highlighting improvements in system memory, CPU clock speed, and graphical performance.
Enhanced Specifications
Insider Gaming reveals that the PS5 Pro’s system memory will operate at 576 GB/s, a 28 percent increase in bandwidth gain compared to the standard PS5. Additionally, it will feature the same eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU but with a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode’ reaching speeds up to 3.85GHz, a 10 percent jump over the PS5’s 3.5GHz.
Audio Enhancements and Disc Drive & GPU Improvements
Leaked information suggests audio enhancements for the PS5 Pro, with 35 percent more performance in the ACM library. The console is expected to include a detachable disc drive, similar to the slimmer version of the standard PS5, along with 1TB storage.
Leaked documents from PlayStation developer portal indicate GPU improvements for the PS5 Pro, featuring 45 percent faster rendering and up to three times the compute power compared to the PS5.
Sony’s Strategy
While Sony has not officially confirmed plans for the PS5 Pro, past trends suggest a release similar to the PS4 Pro, launched around three years after the original PS4. Industry analysts anticipate a PS5 Pro launch in the second half of 2024, aiming to bolster console sales ahead of the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025. With over 50 million PS5 units sold since its launch in November 2020, Sony aims to maintain its competitive edge in the gaming market.
